Riverlea is located on the site of a pear orchard dating back to the late 1800s. It was lucky to survive the 1939 bushfires when the flames got so close they burnt down the chook shed!
Set among 10 acres of rolling vineyard and natural bush land, the Victorian homestead has been rebuilt in the style of the original residence after the property was purchased by Lynda and her partners from the first leaseholders, the Leak family, in 1983. Riverlea's landscape continues to evolve and now features a lake with a lake house that can be used for wedding services and often hosts Sunday brunch. There are manicured gardens overlooking natural bush and 6 acres under vine, creating a space that makes this a special place to visit for dinner in Restaurant 1912 (named after the year the title to the property was first issued), hold a wedding in the grand marquee, set up on the lawn or enjoy an overnight stay in one of the two beautifully furbished Irish and French bed and breakfast rooms above the restaurant.
Fine dining
Restaurant 1912 features modern Australian cuisine matched with estate and local wine from vineyards such as Yarra Brook, Yarra Vale, Coldstream Hills, Shantell, Dominique Portet, Yarra Ridge and of course Riverlea. With dishes like Jamaican chicken, sumptuous antipasto platters, and their legendary marinara pasta it easy to see why Riverlea is a favourite for locals and is well patronised by the foodies, especially those who come along to 1912's Friday night wine tasting and tapas or the food and wine appreciation nights held throughout the year. Underneath the restaurant in the purpose built cellar there is a bar and lounges to relax and finish of your night off with a cigar and a fine cognac. Lose yourself in the moment and you could easily imagine you were visiting a villa in Tuscany or provincial France.
A complimentary stay in the B & B is provided for the bride and groom overlooking the beautiful gardens and lake setting so if you are planning a wedding an inspection of Riverlea is a must. Bookings for 1912 are recommended and if you wish to dine outside the normal opening hours from Thursday-Sunday a booking for a minimum of 15 is required.
Riverlea accepts all cards including Amex and Diners.
