Janet and her team of enthusiastic colleagues opened Gingko Organic Foodstore in March 2004 and have recently added a café, allowing customers to sit down and enjoy freshly prepared organic food with gourmet flavours from around the globe. Ginko’s catch cry "Organic food is not a luxury, it’s the way it’s meant to be" is more than evident when you peruse the grocery section, with its extensive range of quality organic products from grains, fruit and vegetables to gluten–free breads, dairy and wheat–free products and a range of groceries. Expect to find pasta, rice, olive oils, dairy, soy, chocolate, coffee, crispbreads, snack bars, tofu, cooking oils and wines — there are more than 1000 stocked items on the shelf. They even stock the environmentally friendly "Biodegradable" disposable nappies!
Meeting and eating
Janet says her original vision was to provide the people of Warrandyte with a healthy food store where people can meet, eat, enjoy coffee and take home food they know will be true to the way nature intended it to be. With a licence to sell their range of organically produced wine to accompany their food and the cosy comfy couches or dinning settings in their cafe it’s no wonder that this bright spot on the horizon looks set to burn for many years to come! Brand names you may recognise include Bio Nature, Naturally Organic, Lotus Organic Foods, Gourmet Organic, Yarra Organic, Sun Zest, Natures Path, Nicholas Organic, Phoenix soft drinks, Jalna dairy, Water Wheel and Timboon Organic.
