Bolero’s Café and Restaurant is the vision and inspiration of Arash Fakhrai, who has spent many years in the restaurant game. Formerly working in inner-city Melbourne, he decided to make a river change (rather than a sea change) by moving upstream along the Yarra three years ago to set up this beautiful little restaurant in the heart of Warrandyte.
With its sunny position, Bolero's is a fantastic place to come for lunch and enjoy a meal basking in the sun under umbrellas in the courtyard out front. At night it really hots up with grill plates sizzling and the smell of freshly cooked seafood platters bursting with colour being brought to the table.
As the name Bolero's suggests, the fare has a Spanish influence, meaning plenty of seafood and tapas, matched with fruity wines and finished off with delicious deserts and aperitifs of Spanish origin. Arash’s vision was to provide an eclectic menu, so you will find seasonal treats on offer, including French-influenced dishes, and the menu is rarely the same from one week to the next.
Although the service and surrounds have the feel of a fine dining space, Bolero’s prides itself on being able to cater for all clients, including families. So it is common to see everyone from grandma and grandpa down to the new additions of a family seated at a long table enjoying a wondrous feast for a birthday or special occasion. The restaurant seats 72, so it is perfect for private and corporate functions, small wedding receptions, and Christmas parties, as well as for intimate fine dining.
The chefs at Boleros come bring with them a wide variety of experience, including stints at the Melbourne Oyster Bar in the city and the Melting Pot in Collingwood, providing you with proven first-class fare. The seared scallops are divine, the platters full of freshness and colour, and the special menu of seafood (including crayfish when ordered in advance) is mouth-watering.
You can enjoy your meal with a range of local and international beers, including the Spanish Estrella or a choice of handpicked wines from a wine list that includes Seven Hills, Charles Sturt, Woodstock, Ballast Stone and Spanish reds and whites. They have EFTPOS and accept all cards.
