Park Orchards Chalet is nestled in a valley that used to be home to many of Melbourne’s fruit orchards and the Park Orchards Country Club (the chalet was formerly the clubhouse), has been serving great food and hosting entertainment for more than 45 years. Built after the turn of the last century and completed in 1928 by Walter Burley Griffin, the architect of Canberra, it is adorned with wood panelling and old–fashioned open fire places.

Now listed by the National Trust, it is a wonderful place to bring the family to enjoy friendly service and a gourmet selection of international fare. Owner and manager Annette Daley has been involved in the business for the past eight years. In August 2004, after running the chalet for three years, her love for the place had grown so much that she bought it with her husband Mal. Together they have worked on a makeover for the estate and its reputable table.

The traditional buffet features a cold and hot selection of gourmet dishes including vegetarian quiche, antipasto, smallgoods, hot roast beef and pork, gourmet Italian and European dishes, sumptuous seafood, salads and vegetables. There is a wide selection of desserts and a newly introduced a la carte menu for midweek diners on Wednesday and Thursday lunch and dinner. It’s an ideal venue for wedding receptions of up to 120 guests, and will cater for up to 300 for private, corporate or Christmas functions.

There is live music, entertainment and dancing on a Friday and Saturday night and Sunday lunch, so bookings are recommended. Parking is never a problem with a 100–space car park adjacent to the main venue. Set amid extensive manicured gardens, the chalet is hard to miss when travelling down Park Road, Park Orchards is just 25 minutes from Melbourne, so whether you are after a romantic evening, a fun night out or somewhere to bring the family, the Park Orchards Chalet is proof that, with the right attention to upkeep, some things keep improving with age. The Park Orchards Chalet is fully licensed and you may BYO wine only. They accept all cards except Amex and Diners Club, and will open on request at any time for bookings of 40 people or more.
