History
The North East zone of Victoria was founded, like most areas of Victoria, on the discovery of gold.
It is one of the most varied regions of Victoria topographically, encompassing the snow capped peaks of the Australian Alps, and the wide open plains of the Murray basin. There are three registered wine producing regions within the north east, Beechworth, Rutherglen and the Alpine Valley.
The King Valley is a name that is pending registration as a region. We have included the King Valley in our division of regions, as it has quite a number of different wineries operating within. We will also include Glenrowan within the King Valley, as it is situated just on the west boundary of the proposed King Valley region, and is well worth visiting while you are in the area. |
